Play4Dead looks for the best server for you to play on amongst servers provided by GSPs which include 3FL, BestGN, ClearnetDeluxe.co.nz, EGN, GameArena, GameSpace, games.on.net and iPGN.

Accessible In-Game
You can access Play4Dead in-game! Simply access the Steam web browser via the Steam Overlay (Shift+Tab) while playing and visit Play4Dead.com.
If you play in window mode instead, you can just use a normal browser window to access the site too. You don't need Left 4 Dead already running in order to play, the game will be started for you.

About Play4Dead
Play4Dead continuously monitors hundreds of local Australian and New Zealand Alien Swarm, Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 game servers, allowing it to make snap decisions in finding you the best possible server to play on.
When you use the Play Now or Party system, Play4Dead evaluates each game server that it tracks according to a range of criteria:

- The server must be running the chosen game mode and version
- The server must be populated; empty servers are never chosen (unless your Party size requires an empty server)
- If in a party; there must be enough free slots for every party member (on any team) to join
- Servers that have more players are preferred over those that are nearly empty
- Servers that are closer to the start of their campaign progress are preferred when applicable to the game mode (Versus, Co-Op and Realism)
- Servers recently joined by you via the Play4Dead system are excluded from being recommended to you again for several minutes

- Changed the Server Browser to show the friendly map name instead of a filename
- Fixed occasionally reporting that there were no players or servers online
- Added 'Same Team' option to Party Games to ensure all players play on the same team when joining a server
- Added help text to describe Advanced Options
- Added In-Progress Maps view to provide a quick way to choose a preferred session to join
- Added sortable columns to the 'View Servers' screen, separated empty servers from the list, and allowed the page to be book marked
- Fixed a problem that sometimes prevented the 'Server Provider' restriction from taking effect
